What is PDO Fine Thread Therapy?
- An excellent and effective cosmetic technique to lift and tighten sagging skin tissues
- Re-defines facial contours and induces collagen production
- Lifting effect lasts for up to 2-3 years
- The thread will form an intergrated support structure for the tissue of the face due to collagen synthesis
- The lifting effect is at its peak 6 months later when collagen has formed around the threads
Which areas are treatable with PDO Fine Thread Therapy?
Upper and lower cheeks, jawline, neck, naso-labial folds, marionette lines.
Facial Contouring
PDO Fine Facial Thread Therapy can very effectively strengthen the contour of the face, reduce roundness, lift sagging skin in the cheeks, jowls, and neck.
Skin Rejuvenation
Enhances skin tone and tightens pores.
The Procedure
Local aneasthetic is injected into the treatment area. The PDO thread will then be introduced using a cannula or micro-needle into the required area. The procedure will take around about 40-60 minutes, depending on what treatment you will require. You will be able to fully resume your everyday routine and social commitments within a couple of days. PDO fine thread therapy is a tailor made treatment which can be adjusted to your requirements at any time. When combined with Dermal Fillers and Botox great results can be achieved.
How does it work?
Skin rejuvenation from the natural wound healing process
PDO Fine Thread therapy originated from the traditional thread lift philisophy in western medicine as well as 'threads-embedded therapy' in oriental acupunture therapy to control and improve tissue stimulation and muscle contraction.
The product used for PDO therapy is a fine needle (21G-30G) affixed to the absorbable thread (thickness of 0.05mm - 0.4mm and length of 25mm -140mm)
The needle is inserted into the subcutaneous layer of the skin, and when it is taken out, the thread remains implanted in the skin. Insertion of dozens of needles to the deeper layer of skin with absorbable threads activates their natural regenerative process and mechanical stimulation of would healing and tissue contraction.
The Threads
The threads are made of a material called PDO - or Polydioxanone, a clinically proven bio-compatible and bio degradable material that is widely used in medical suturing.
The most recent development in thread lifting has been the introduction of cog threads. A move away from the traditional monofilaments to barbed threads, this new shape induces higher chronic inflammatory reaction causing a higher rate of fibroblast conversion during the wound healing process. As a result, clients achieve a longer lasting and more visible effect after a single treatment.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who is a good candidate for PDO fine thread therapy?
The best candidates for PDO therapy are men and women who are beginning to experience sagging of the mid and lower face, visible jowls and loose skin on the neck.
Can PDO threading be used alongside other aesthetic procedures?
PDO fine thread therapy can be used alone or in combination with other treatments to deliver optimal results eg, dermal fillers, botulinum toxin injections, micro-needling (dermaroller), peels, and Obagi treatments.
When do you see results with the PDO fine thread therapy?
There is an immediate improvement seen after the treatment, with a visible lift in the areas treated. This will improve over a period of 2-6 months as new collagen grows between the threads and gives a further lift and tightening to the skin. The PDO threads gradually dissolve over 6 months but the resulting lift remains.
How long do the results last for?
This varies depending on the patient's age at the time of treatment, the quality of skin, degree of sagging and the number of threads used. However, studies have shown that results can last between 2-3 years.
Are there any side effects?
PDO fine thread therapy is a very safe procedure and complications are extremely rare. Minor complications may include temporary swelling and bruising. Patients may feel slight tightness or a pulling sensation following the treatment which subsides over a few weeks.
